Why Brew with a Siphon?

Fill the lower bowl with water and heat it: the hot water is pushed up into the upper bowl, where it steeps the coffee. Once you take away the heat, the vacuum draws the coffee back down into the lower bowl while the cloth filter holds back the grounds. More than drip brewing, it is extraction you can actually watch: great for showing off at home, and well suited to light roasts when you want a clean cup with clear sweetness.

Usage and Care

• Glass and open flame: use the alcohol burner on a stable, flat surface, away from children, curtains and anything flammable. Only move it once it has burned out or been put out.
• Do not put the whole set in the microwave, oven or dishwasher. HARIO states that only the upper bowl, lower bowl and lid are dishwasher-safe; hand wash the burner, stand and cloth filter.
• Never heat the lower bowl empty. Make sure there is enough water in the lower bowl before heating.
• Sudden changes in temperature can crack the glass. Do not run cold water over a hot bowl.
• Rinse the cloth filter after use and store it in water in the fridge to slow deterioration; replace it if it becomes mouldy.
• Use denatured fuel alcohol as directed in the burner instructions; never use petrol.
