Coffee Knowledge Base
Q: Why is dark roast caffeine not necessarily higher?
A: Caffeine is very stable during roasting. Because light roast beans are denser and retain more moisture, they actually have more mass per bean. If you measure by weight (e.g., 20g), light roasts often contain slightly more caffeine than dark roasts.
Q: What is the recommended pour-over ratio?
A: For beginners, we recommend the "Golden Ratio" of 1:15. That means 1g of coffee to 15g of hot water. This ratio offers the best balance between strength and extraction yield.
Q: What is the one-way valve on coffee bags for?
A: Freshly roasted beans release CO2 (degassing). The valve allows CO2 to escape preventing the bag from bursting, while stopping oxygen from entering, which is key to preserving freshness.
