Sanyo ABACA coffee filter papers are made from a blend of wood pulp and Manila hemp (Musa textilis), a fast-growing plant that stands up well to weather and pests. Manila hemp can be grown in large quantities without chemical fertilisers or pesticides, so using it instead of wood as the raw material for filter papers reduces the use of forest resources and places no burden on the environment. ABACA fibres are stronger than those in ordinary filter papers, giving better support and better liquid permeability. When brewing, they reduce clogging from fines, make the brew easier to control and speed up the flow, for a clean-tasting cup.
