Sanyo ABACA Coffee Filter papers are made from 80% Manila hemp (Musa textilis), a fast-growing plant that stands up well to weather and pests, blended with paper pulp. Manila hemp can be grown in large quantities without chemical fertilisers or pesticides; using it instead of wood as the raw material for filter paper reduces the use of forest resources and avoids placing a burden on the environment. ABACA fibres are stronger than those of ordinary filter paper, giving good support and better liquid permeability. They reduce clogging by fines during brewing, making the brew easier to control and the coffee's flavour cleaner.
